How long are the programs?
The length of each program varies. Minimum length is 5 days and maximum is 20 days.
Who facilitates the programs?
Each program is facilitated by RPI faculty in their fields of expertise. Biographies of participating faculty are listed on program pages.
Is there an application?
Yes. Application instructions are listed on each program's page. Applications typically include an unofficial high school transcripts and letters of recommendation.
How much do the programs cost?
Tuition varies from program to program but all fees include all program materials and activities both on and off campus. The residential fee includes residential hall housing, linens, meals, and activities both on and off campus.
Are the programs residential?
Students may opt to stay on campus, to do so select “residential option” on your application when submitting it. If you wish to commute to campus, please select the “commuter” option during the application process. Note: Evening and weekend residential life experiences are limited to students who reside on campus.
What sorts of activities will we do in the evenings and weekends?
The residential component is structured to introduce participants to the life of a Rensselaer student and will include both on and off campus activities, showcasing the city of Troy and the RPI campus.
Who may apply to participate in Summer@Rensselaer programs?
Programs are targeted to rising freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors (or individuals who will still be in high school in fall 2016). Graduating high school seniors may apply.
Are there pre-requisites for any of the programs?
Yes. Since pre-requisites vary from program to program students should look for information on the pages specific to their programs of interest. Feel free to contact our office if you have any questions.
Are there scholarships available?
Unfortunately, there are no scholarships available for summer 2016.
Can my student apply to more than one program?
Yes! If a student applies and is accepted to more than one program, they are more than welcome to attend all sessions, so long as they do not overlap with each other academically. Housing between sessions is available.
My student will be age-eligible a month or two after the program begins; can they still apply/register?
Students must be at least 14 years of age on the day they start the program to reside on campus. Students must be at least 16 years of age on the day they start the program to work in Rensselaer laboratories.
