Renewable Energy - A summer program for High School Students

Open to High School Students
There is no campus housing for this program

Program Details

The Center for Power Electronic Systems (CPES) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has summer opportunities available to a limited number of high school students to get familiar with renewable energy sources and systems. Fundamentals of renewable energy and storage systems will be discussed. Our focus is on converting the energy from wind, solar, hydrogen, and others to usable electrical energy. The role of power devices and power electronics system in energy conversion will be discussed.

The Center for Power Electronics Systems is an Engineering Research Center that has been established and sponsored by the National Science Foundation, now sponsored by industries, and a consortium of five universities and ninety corporations. The five universities are working cooperatively with each other and with the industrial sponsors to bring about changes that are exciting and significant to every user of electricity. The goal of this research center is to make the United States the most efficient consumer of electricity through advanced electronic control of electrical energy. This will result in a cleaner environment, increased comfort, increased productivity and a more sustainable economy.
